Dr. Michael Bütter has been CEO and Chairman of the Management Board of Union Investment Real Estate GmbH since 1 October 2020. As head of the Real Estate segment, he is responsible for coordinating Union Investment’s entire global real estate business, excluding residential in the DACH region.

Dr Maximilian Brauers
Dr. Maximilian Brauers has been a Member of the Board of Managing Directors of Union Investment Institutional Property GmbH since July 2021. In this role he is in charge of real estate sales for German and international key accounts. In January 2022 he took over the responsibility for Outsourcing Controling and Insourcing Advisory Mandates for Union Investment Real Estate.

Karim Esch
Karim Esch joined the management board of Union Investment Real Estate GmbH on 1 July 2025. He is responsible for investment management. Before being appointed to the management board of Union Investment Real Estate GmbH, he was authorised signatory and then managing director for institutional client business at the relevant sister company, Union Investment Institutional Property GmbH. He has many years of experience in the real estate fund business. Karim Esch joined Union Investment in 2011.

Kirsten Ludwig
Kirsten Ludwig is a member of the Management Board of Union Investment Institutional Property GmbH since 1 July 2025. She is responsible for the Institutional Fund Management for open-ended and closed-ended real estate funds (Service KVGs and real estate funds of funds). Kirsten Ludwig joined Union Investment in 2009. After five years in equity interest management at Union Investment Real Estate GmbH, she switched to the Mandate Management Third-Party Business group at Union Investment Institutional Property GmbH in 2014, taking over as head of the group in 2021.

Henrike Waldburg
Henrike Waldburg joined the management board of Union Investment Real Estate GmbH on 1 July 2023. In the Asset Management division, she is responsible for portfolio and leasing management, real estate project management and the process of decarbonisation and sustainable transformation of Union Investment's real estate portfolio. Henrike Waldburg has held various management positions at the company since 2006. Most recently, she headed the Investment Management Global department and the Investment Management Institutional division.
