Nuveen Real Estate, one of the world’s largest real estate investment managers, has appointed Peter Hansell as a Senior Director within its European Commercial Real Estate (CRE) debt team.
Peter, who is based in London, will be focusing on debt investments, including the origination of new opportunities and the management of the firm’s various continental Europe and UK debt strategies.
When the market turned decidedly negative in early 2022, the strong value-add investment opportunity in the wake of the global financial crisis (GFC) came back to mind for many and inspired a number of real estate players to repeat that success. Substantial amounts of capital have since been raised, but very little of it has been invested to date.
With over 70% of surveyed institutional investors now considering or planning to consider climate risk and the environmental and societal impact of their investment decisions, it is becoming increasingly obvious that investment products should offer sustainable qualities in order to meet this growing demand. As a result of this trend, this paper looks at how commercial real estate (CRE) debt could be a popular choice.
Market conditions remain volatile amid higher interest rates, inflation and the threat of looming recession. In such an environment, investors are struggling to meet return requirements. However, asset classes such as commercial real estate (CRE) debt could offer the potential for value across short, U.K. medium and long-term timeframes, while adding effective portfolio diversification.
