Mark Fogle, Managing Director & Head of Real Estate, joined BPEA in 2011 to lead the Firm’s real estate activities. From 2007 to 2010, Mr Fogle served as Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer of Deutsche Bank RREEF Asia, where he was responsible for overseeing real estate investments in the Region. As CIO and a research-focused investor, Mr Fogle was instrumental in the disposition of a large portion of RREEF’s real estate exposure in Asia, while at the same time tightening the firm’s investment process and underwriting criteria. As such, RREEF was one of the more successful investors in Asia during the period of Mr Fogle’s tenure as CIO. From 1997 to 2006, Mr Fogle was a Managing Director at AIG Global Real Estate, where he grew the Asian business from a small lending operation into one of the largest real estate equity players in Asia, investing capital on behalf of AIG’s clients through managed funds as well as placing proprietary funds of AIG’s affiliates into core, value-add and high-yield/opportunistic assets. During his tenure at AIG, which spanned multiple Asian economic cycles, Mr Fogle initiated AIG’s program to invest in distressed debt and underperforming assets as well as structuring joint ventures with Asian property companies to acquire and develop undervalued sites. Prior to joining AIG, from 1992 to 1997, Mr. Fogle was responsible for the Asian expansion of a US development and investment firm, The John Buck Company. Mr Fogle first began working in Asia in 1989 when he assisted his former company, USAA Real Estate, in the structuring of a Japan-based private real estate investment trust, which owned US properties. Mr Fogle started his 30-year career in real estate in 1981, gaining experience in the 1980s boom to bust cycle of the US property markets. During this first decade of his career, which included the Savings & Loan crisis, Mr Fogle concentrated in areas ranging from work-outs to joint venture developments, sale and lease backs and the acquisition of distressed debt or impaired assets across North America. He completed his junior year at St Mary’s University before moving full-time into the real estate industry, is a member of the Urban Land Institute and was a founding Board member of the Asian Association for Investors in Non-Listed Real Estate Vehicles (ANREV).
